Endings & Beginnings: Reconnecting to Your Heart in Times of Transition
In our last newsletter, we talked about the “heat” of rage. Sometimes when that passes, other feelings are revealed, like grief, anxiety and anticipation. Regardless of the connection to rage, we often hear about agitation (or anticipation) and discontent as the summer wanes and autumn begins. Whether it’s back-to-school energy (active or remembered!), relationship stress, or the subtle pressure to ‘get it together’ for a new season, our nervous systems may activate in this time of seasonal and life transition.
Regulate
As always, the first step is to bring awareness to the sensations in the body and sphere. In acknowledging what’s present, the energy is better able to express itself without getting stuck. Repair
The heart holds its own neurons and can provide an effective nervous system reset with intention and practice. In building a relationship with this circuit, you’re not only soothing the present moment but also healing wounds. Think of it like putting salve on a cut that’s next to a scar. The scar tissue benefits from the salve and, with consistent application, can fade with time.
Rise
So in bringing awareness to the transitory feelings of August’s end and September’s beginning, and acknowledging the breadth of sensation in our field and in our bodies, we invite an opportunity to employ new skills, like HeartMath, in regulating the nervous system, or build strength in existing tools.
